Joseph Simons was honoured with GCR’s Outstanding Career Award for 2026.

Simons repeatedly used his speech to recognise two of his mentors, Georgetown Law professors Steven Salop and Tom Krattenmaker, who developed the economic theory that a dominant firm could profitably exclude competition by raising rivals' costs. Simons was the first practitioner to apply the theory. He also helped develop the “critical loss analysis” that is still used to define a relevant antitrust market.
