Mike started his executive career in economic consulting, principally advisory work in the context of contested legal proceedings such as merger clearance and dominance inquiries. He moved to Sky and spent 15 years there, initially as Director of Strategy and the last six years as Chief Operating Officer. He then took up the role of CEO at News International, publishers of the Times, Sunday Times and Sun. His non-executive career has included board director roles at Home Retail Group (retailers Argos and Homebase), Chair roles at Dennis Publishing (The Week), Arqiva (TV infrastructure) and M247 (B2B connectivity and cloud services), and advisory work for a range of media companies including ITV, the BBC, Comcast, Premier League and OSN (pay TV in the Middle East). He is currently a board director at Sky New Zealand and Chair of British Gymnastics, and is a regular publisher of media comment pieces on LinkedIn under the Tellynomics header.
