Claire is a barrister (and Partner at Van Bael & Bellis) with over 25 years of courtroom and advisory experience in EU/EEA competition, State aid and internal market law. She has acted in many landmark competition cases before the EU and EFTA Courts, e.g. Illumina/Grail, Google Shopping, Android Auto, Imagens Medicas, CK Telecoms, Apple Ireland State aid, Budapest Bank, Telenor. Her wide-ranging caseload also covers cases on privacy and GDPR, free movement and consumer protection, tax law, financial services, fundamental rights and sport. Claire has in-depth experience of how the EU and EEA institutions work and reason. She previously worked in the legal service of the EFTA Surveillance Authority. There, she was responsible for the pursuit and defence of competition and internal market cases before the CJEU, GCEU and EFTA Court. She worked closely with the European Commission and national competition authorities on dawn raids, investigations, complaints and infringement proceedings. Finally, Claire understands the demands of an in-house environment, having worked over a decade at Euroclear (including as Group Head of Competition Law).
